GETTING TO KNOW US // KELLY + ANDREI

April 18, 2018

Hello & Happy Hump Day! Anyone else get pretty excited about Wednesday. This week has been a different one for us, it included a trip to Philly and New York City for engagement photo sessions! That’s right, trying to get all our work covered before baby girl arrives. 😉 We’ve got a really good post for you today. Throughout the past weeks we have been introducing all the members of the Janae Rose Photography Team, and today we’ve got Kelly & Andrei here to tell you more about themselves.

These two are incredible, and we have enjoyed getting to see their creative work over the years. Not only that, but they’re amazing friends, and we have appreciated their insight and encouragement in our lives. I (Janae) have known these two since my teenage years. Wild right! In fact that I think we might even be classified as family, Kelly’s sister is married to my brother. That makes us family right?!?! 😉 We are super excited to have this power couple on our team. Anyway, we could go on and on about these amazing people, but we’re going to let them take it from here…

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOW YOU MET EACH OTHER, AND ABOUT WHAT “DREW” YOU TO ONE ANOTHER?

We first met at our church youth group. The first time I (Kelly) saw Andrei, I was 14 years old and he was 18, and he was the new guy invited to the youth group (by my current brother in law, how crazy is that?!). I leaned over to one of my friends and said that he was the cutest boy that I ever saw, shaggy Zac Efron High School Musical hair and all.

It was a couple of years later when I was back for the summer after my first year of college in Texas that we became good friends and would see each other multiple times a week from being in the same friend groups and church events. Janae and Hugo’s wedding was that summer and Andrei claims that I was standing alone by the dance floor longingly looking at it so he figured that he had to ask me to swing dance. We had a lot of fun together and when the evening ended, I made sure that I was standing extra close to him during the fireworks in the rain.

Andrei proceeded to not tell me that he liked me for the rest of the summer until I went back to school and he texted me nonstop. We had our first date over Christmas break, and the rest is history.

I was drawn to Andrei’s kindness and his sincere heart, and of course his dreamy smile, dimples included, and handsomeness. He asked me to sing on his worship team at Gateway House of Prayer and I got to stand next to him as he sang and played the guitar every week for a whole summer, and I just couldn’t resist liking him. 😉

I (Andrei) was drawn to Kelly’s sincere heart and warm personality. She’s a very fun person to be around and I was amazed at how easy it was to talk with her and how much our visions and dreams for life lined up. Not to mention, she’s incredibly beautiful, inside and out.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN MARRIED?

2 years and 10 months!

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES FROM YOUR OWN WEDDING DAY?

One of my favorite memories from my wedding day was when I (Kelly) was walking down the aisle to my handsome groom. My dad was crying, I was crying, and Andrei was crying. It was such a beautiful emotional moment of happy tears and rejoicing. Andrei also claims that’s his favorite moment because we perfectly timed this really epic song as I walked down the aisle and it was very emotional for him. I also loved the moment when the wedding officiant pronounced us “Man & Wife”. It was so surreal and we were SO ecstatically happy!!!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE DATE NIGHT LOCATIONS?

We like to go on date days over the weekend, and one of our favorite places to get away is Longwood Gardens. We’ve had memberships there for two years. We actually got engaged there! I love flowers and nature, and it’s such a beautiful and restful place for us to walk around and enjoy anytime of the year because the change up a lot of their displays monthly. Most of the time while we’re there, we’ll swing by our favorite restaurant, Terrain Garden Café.

DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATIONS, OR TRIPS YOU’VE TAKEN TOGETHER?

Our favorite place to be together on vacation is at the beach, so our one-year anniversary trip to Hawaii for two weeks has definitely been one of our favorite trips together! For our second anniversary we went to California and saw the sights from the northern end to the southern end, and that was also a highlight for us. We recently just got back from Waco, Texas where we visited the Magnolia Market and it was a DREAM!

Our all-time favorite place to visit is Miami, Florida because we have been there at least once a year for the past four years to visit five of Andrei’s siblings and their families that live there.

SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR BUCKET LIST? WHAT ARE SOME OF THINGS YOU CAN’T WAIT TO DO TOGETHER?

We would love to go back to Hawaii for one of our anniversaries in the future again and explore some of the other islands like Maui and Oahu. Europe and New Zealand are also on the list. We have dreams about one day owning our own creative agency, business, or media production studio. We’re not sure which one yet, or maybe all three, but we love to collaborate with and inspire other creatives in the context of community and heart level relationships.

A true bucket of bucket lists would be to write a movie together, and Andrei would direct it and I would produce it. I would also love to record an album.

HOW (OR WHERE) DID YOU DEVELOPED AN INTEREST IN PHOTOGRAPHY?

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve loved capturing special moments with photography and scrap booking them. I am a graphic designer at Ephrata Community Church, and I had just taken on the role of managing all of the church’s social media accounts and didn’t have any professional pictures to post or to use in my designs for church events, which is when I contacted Janae and started taking photography lessons from her.

I (Andrei) went to school for film at Drexel University. I had a photography course my first year and really enjoyed it from then on.

WHAT’S ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT GETTING TO WORK TOGETHER AS A HUSBAND AND WIFE TEAM?

We are complete opposites of each other and so we balance out each other’s weaknesses and strengths, making the perfect team. On the Myers Briggs test, Andrei is the INTP and I am the ESFJ. I’m the creative brain and the people relater, and Andrei is the technical brain that’s good at figuring stuff out. He like to take his time thinking, I like to get into action. Once we began to understand our unique strengths and how we complemented each other, we became much more effective at working together.

AND FINALLY…IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE AN ICONIC OR CELEBRITY COUPLE THAT BEST REPRESENTS YOU WHO WOULD IT BE?…AND WHY?

We would choose Jim and Pam from The Office because we love to joke around with each other, and obviously because of our good looks. 😉 When we started watching the Office on our 12-hour flight to Hawaii, I was a receptionist and a graphic designer at an office, and Andrei’s office was right beside my desk, so we would give each other flirty looks every time he came out of his office all day long. I also am known to pull a few pranks in the office from time to time and once put our bookkeeper’s stapler in jello.
