FLORENCE ITALY, DESTINATION ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS || JACLYN + LEWIS

August 21, 2019

To say that Lewis & Jaclyn’s engagement photos were magical would be an extreme understatement. I’ll never forget the day that we met them over Skype for the first time, and the idea of their Italy engagement photo session with us was born! These two planned an incredible trip to Italy this summer, and they wanted to document their love in one of the most beautiful places in the world! We’re so very honored that Jaclyn + Lewis trusted us to capture not only their unique love, but this trip that they will forever hold dear in their hearts. Italy you’ve captivated us all, we are sure to be back some day!

When we stepped off the plane in Florence we were greeted with warm sunshine and the lovely sound of the Italian language. We proceeded to meet with Jaclyn and Lewis at a restaurant they recommended. The food was divine, especially if you enjoy a GOOD steak, but the company was even better! We loved hearing all about Jaclyn & Lewis’s adventures in Italy, and especially how they had fallen in love with the city of Florence! They shared their stories of visits to wineries, their days exploring Italian cities, and wandering through the incredible countryside!

The next day we’d planned for their photos, and we were all brimming with anticipation. We would start the day off at sunrise in the city of Florence. Whenever we work in a larger city that is graced with many tourist we recommend shooting at sunrise, because the light is incredible, and secondly we can beat the crowds that way! Jaclyn + Lewis were so gracious and willing to get up before the sun, which paid off because we found the streets of Florence almost entirely empty!

We started at The Duomo Cathedral, to which I can say I’ve never seen anything like it! The color and the design of this gothic style cathedral is beyond words, and it was the perfect place to start our time in Florence. We then headed over to Piazza Della Republica. We stoped by a carousel that Jaclyn & Lewis admired when they were first in the city (which was opening just in time for our photos!) What a fun part of the city! From there we headed towards the river to Ponte Vecchio. One of my favorite parts of this location was the beautiful archways that line the street near by. If you have been around here for any amount of time then you’ll know that we LOVE arches, and Florence offered us many!

After a stroll along the river we jumped in the car and headed to Piazzale Michelangelo and San Miniato. San Miniato is a must see in my opinion, it overlooks the city and has been described as one of the finest Romanesque structures in Tuscany. Some of my favorite images are of Jaclyn & Lewis walking up the steps to San Miniato! This area offered such a variety of backdrops, and showcased the joy of this couple so well!

We can not thank Jaclyn and Lewis enough for allowing us to be a part of this special season! We got to share in the last day of their trip, and it was so very memorable! We loved getting to help with the planning and research that made this shoot possible, and getting to be a part of wandering the city with them, taking in history and beauty all at the same time. Later this day we ventured into the Tuscan countryside, and those images will be coming in another blog post later this week! We can’t wait to share…but for NOW enjoy the Florence portion of Jaclyn + Lewis’s engagement photos!
