Hello! As you may have seen we launched some super exciting news this past week about how our team is growing. And if you haven’t already heard, these people are absolutely incredible! We did some minor introductions last week, however we wanted to really dive in deep and allow you to get to know everyone super well on the Janae Rose Photography team.

That’s why we will be taking the next few Wednesdays to share a little more about ourselves as couples, and we think you’re gonna love it. Today we are starting with US. That’s right we are Janae & Hugo, and we have been around here the longest, you may know a little about us, however we thought it never hurts to get reacquainted. Each of these posts will be interview style, and today ours is the same.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOW YOU MET EACH OTHER, AND ABOUT WHAT “DREW YOU TO EACH OTHER.”

We met in the land of eternal spring aka Guatemala. Our story goes pretty far back, however the short version is as follows… “Young unqualified English teacher meets handsome young translator, in a small village called “Aguacate”…and basically we’ve been inseparable since then”. I (Janae) pretty much immediately knew that Hugo was a keeper, however he likes to think that I fell for him because of his English speaking abilities and his car. 😉

WHAT’S ONE OR MORE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT BEING MARRIED?

Getting to do life together every day is pretty much the best. When we were dating long distance, every time we had to hang up the phone or leave one another it felt like a piece of our hearts were being ripped out of our chest. YEEP, doing everyday life together is WAY better.

Also starting a family has been one of the most beautifully wild rides we have been on, and we would not trade it for anything. Who knew you could love sleep deprivation and “Finding Dory” so much. In all seriousness though watching our family grow is sometime we would never trade.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU ENJOY DOING TOGETHER AS A COUPLE?

We enjoy riding our bikes together, hanging with our sweet three year old daughter, cooking Guatemalan food, traveling, and playing board games. We also love entertaining family, friends, and pretty much anyone.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE DATE NIGHT LOCATION(S).

We are pretty spontaneous and like to try new places often, so we don’t have one particular spot we frequent. However we do loves ourselves a good old dinner and a movie kind of date-night. The overpriced-unhealthy movie theater popcorn appeals to us. 

SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR BUCKET LIST. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU CAN’T WAIT TO DO TOGETHER?

Europe is on the list for SURE. Particularly Spain. Hugo wants to watch a “Classico” at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid. (If you have no idea what that means it’s ok, it’s a “futbol” thing)

We hope to one day own a wedding venue, and dream about hosting workshops for photographers (maybe all around the world.) We love seeing people be encouraged and inspired.

WHAT DOES YOUR IDEAL WEEKEND TOGETHER LOOK LIKE?

As we have gotten older, I have to say that we really enjoy sleeping-in, brunch, and time spent outside. That’s right a Guatemalan style brunch complete with eggs and beans, and a little Vitamin D is pretty much all it takes to float our boat.

WHAT’S ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT GETTING TO WORK TOGETHER AS A COUPLE?

We know it’s not this way for everyone, however we have found that we are are simply better together. When we work together something awesome happens, we are more creative, productive, and we just simply love dreaming together.

We were actually just recently remembering that on one of our first dates we talked/dreamed about owning a coffee/studio space together. Somehow I don’t think that’s your average first date kind of conversation, but we have always just loved dreaming and “doing” together.

Pregnant and I can’t hide it. 😉 So might as well embrace it.
